FAQ

Shop READY-MADE READERS, made like real glasses. Payne Glasses readers let you choose from hundreds of frames, quarter-step powers from +0.25 to +2.75, three reader designs, and lens upgrades—so you can build reading glasses that feel more personal than drugstore readers. Complete readers start from $5.95*.

  • How are Payne Glasses readers different from drugstore readers?

Drugstore readers are usually ready-made in limited frame styles and basic power steps. Payne Glasses readers are made to order, so you can choose from hundreds of frames, quarter-step powers, three reader designs, and lens upgrades. It is a more customized way to build readers that fit your style, comfort, and everyday needs.

  • What is the difference between Classic Readers, Progressive Readers, and Bifocal Readers?

The difference is where your reading power sits in the lens. Classic Readers have reading power across the full lens. Progressive Readers provide a no-line transition for near tasks, while Bifocal Readers place reading power in a visible lower segment. These designs are made for people whose distance vision is clear without correction.

  • Do readers correct distance vision?

No. Readers do not correct distance vision—the upper lens carries no prescription. If you need distance correction, choose prescription progressives or prescription bifocals instead of ready-made readers.

  • What reading strength should I choose?

Start with the reading power you currently use, or choose the lowest strength that lets you read clearly and comfortably. Payne Glasses readers are available in quarter-step powers from +0.25 to +2.75, giving you more precise options than many standard ready-made readers.

  • Can I order a different reading power in each eye?

Not as ready-made readers. If your two eyes need different powers, or your prescription includes CYL or AXIS for astigmatism, choose Readers (Rx) so your lenses can be made with your exact prescription details.

  • What can I customize on Payne Glasses readers?

You can customize the frame, reader design, reading power, lens material, and available lens upgrades. Options may include anti-glare, Blue Blockers, Clr2Drk™, and sun tints, depending on the frame and lens setup you choose.

  • How do I order ready-made readers online?

Start with an eligible frame, then select No Rx. Choose Readers, pick your reading power, select your reader design, and review available lens options. This step-by-step process helps you build readers that fit your style and reading needs.

  • Do ready-made readers replace an eye exam?

No. Readers are never a substitute for prescribed lenses or a comprehensive eye exam. If your vision has changed, if you need distance correction, or if your prescription includes astigmatism correction, use your eye doctor’s prescription and choose the appropriate Rx lens option.
