Bifocal Glasses

What Are Bifocal lenses?

Bifocal lenses contain two optical powers to accommodate clear vision for both near and far. The top section corrects distance (myopia, hyperopia, and or astigmatism). The bottom corrects near vision (presbyopia).

People with refractive errors, which is when the shape of the eye disrupts light signals to the retina, need eyeglasses to help them see clearly. Bifocal lenses work by bending light to focus correctly on the retina (the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye).

While all bifocal glasses function similarly and carry the same benefits, the visible line segment varies in style and appearance.

What Are Progressive?

Progressive lenses are also called no-line bifocals. Without visible lines on the lens you have a smooth transition from distance, intermediate and near vision instead of just two areas as in the bifocal distance and near.

Progressive lenses offer vision that “progresses” in power from top to bottom providing the most natural eye correction.

What AreThe Advantages of Progressive Lenses Over Bifocal Lenses?

With bifocal or progressive lenses you can see far and near. However, bifocal lenses only provide distance and near correction and the line of the bifocal is evident. Progressive lenses provide seamless no-line design that offers distance, intermediate and near vision.

Do I Need Bifocals or Progressives?

Sometime after age 40, you will begin to notice the symptoms of presbyopia. If you already wear prescription glasses, this generally means you will need to begin wearing multi focal lenses to see clearly at all distances.

If you want to wear a multifocal lens without visible lines, progressive lenses usually are your best choice. It provide wider lens area for reading and computer work.

It is advisable to consider your lifestyle, vision requirement for work and personal preferences before choosing between bifocal and progressive lenses.

    Progressive Lenses vs. Bifocals

Bifocal glasses allow you to see clearly both near and far by use of two separate lens sections. These sections come in many types, like executive bifocals, round lineless bifocals and more, and at Payne Glasses, you’ll find them all. If you have trouble seeing both nearby objects and objects at a distance, bifocals are the right choice. Worry less about needing a pair of reading glasses in addition to your distance glasses by combining them into one useful pair that matches you to a tee. Like bifocal glasses, progressive lenses allow you to see both nearby objects and objects at a distance, but unlike bifocals, there is a seamless transition between lens thickness. Due to this, they are often called no-line bifocals.
